Saying nothing, eating

“People talk about the happy quiet that can exist between two loves, but this, too, was great; sitting between his sister and his brother, saying nothing, eating. Before the world existed, before it was populated, and before there were wars and jobs and colleges and movies and clothes and opinions and foreign travel -- before all of these things there had been only one person, Zora, and only one place: a tent in the living room made from chairs and bed-sheets. After a few years, Levi arrived; space was made for him; it was as if he had always been. Looking at them both now, Jerome found himself in their finger joints and neat conch ears, in their long legs and wild curls. He heard himself in their partial lisps caused by puffy tongues vibrating against slightly noticeable buckteeth. He did not consider if or how or why he loved them. They were just love: they were the first evidence he ever had of love, and they would be the last confirmation of love when everything else fell away.”

My whole life is filled with posters

This was my sister's Father's Day card to my dad this year. The four of us are represented by our glasses (and our nicknames). Yes I would be bitty. Check out her work here.

You are probably wondering where my new header came from... I have my snazzy sister to thank.
Lauren Monaco, aka my big sis, is an artist who graduated from Wash U in St. Louis.  Buy some of her cute cards and posters here, check out her illustrations here, or look at her professional website here.
Here are a few of my favorites by her.

This last one is actually of my family: my dad, mom, Lauren, and me.  I miss them so much!

Ondine

Today Watson from Brilliant Blue Baubles, Lauren from scribble. pen. ink., and I saw Ondine.  I recommend you see it!  We all left wishing we lived in Ireland.  Currently I am a little obsessed with the movie's beautiful scenery and music by Sigur Rós. Check out one of their music videos here.

Check this out!!

My sister has an illustration blog! She has vowed to illustrate something from her summer a few times a week and post it.  Her first post features yours truly! Also check out her professional website.

To my sister

"We slept in the same bed.
There was never a right time to say it.

It was always unnecessary.
The books in my father's shed were sighing.
The sheets were rising and falling around me with Anna's breathing.
I thought about waking her.

but it was unnecessary.
There would be other nights.

And how can you say I love you to someone you love?
I rolled onto my side and fell asleep next to her.

Here is the point of everything I have been trying to tell you...
It's always necessary.

I love you..."
